Viking Professional 7 Quart Stand Mixer - Review

!±8± Viking Professional 7 Quart Stand Mixer - Review

The Viking vsm700 has a host of functions, whether it requires the full power from the 1000-watt motor to provide sufficient torque for the beaters to knead dough or changing the setting to meet the challenge of the sensitivity needed for even the most delicate of meringues. So whatever your requirements are, this superior mixer will match your needs.

The Viking Professional 7 qt mixer is tough with stainless steel used in its construction which gives it strength along with style. This metal strength is also the reason it is able to withstand lots of punishment it might meet when being used. With a low center of gravity because of its metal base, this stand mixer will remain secure and will not creep across the work bench when in operation so that any user can be hands free and able to complete other tasks like adding ingredients to the mix.

When cooking you obviously want to turn out the best baking that is possible, every single time, so an important consideration is the mixing action. The Viking stand mixer has a planetary action, which means, the beater moves one way and the drive shaft in the other direction, while the bowl stays still in order for the mixing to be totally thorough.

Another consideration that the Viking Professional stand mixer meets are speed options you are able to select. There are three power outlets for the many attachments you can use, but importantly on the machine, you have the ability to choose the settings for a variety of slow or fast speeds. initially you are likely to start on a slow mix and work up to a faster speed, whatever your mixing requirements.

Viking have produced many useful feature in their build of the Viking stand mixer, however I find this one, the one where they have placed wheels into the base of the machine quite unique, whereby it can be moved easily across the bench top. This Viking mixer certainly gets high marks for producing a real quality machine that people will come to enjoy making simple work of the most demanding recipe.

Viking Stand Mixers

!±8± Viking Stand Mixers

Viking Stand mixers are manufactured by the Viking Corporation. Viking began as a major appliance manufacturer supplying commercial ranges designed for residential use. It was only natural that they would look at kitchen stand mixers as a natural fit to the product line they offer consumers. Viking has two basic models the VSM 500 and the VSM 700. The main differences are the power of the motor and the mixer bowl sizes. The VSM500 comes with a 5 quart mixer bowl and 800 watts of power. The VSM700 has a 7 quart mixer bowl and 1000 watts of power. Both Viking stand mixers have the same standard features, colors and attachments or accessories. This can be quite handy if you are moving up from the VSM500 and have all the attachments already. The model reviewed for this article was the Viking VSM 700 Professional Series. I considered a number of factors for this review; power, mixer bowl size, features, warranty, and product reviews:

Power: The VSM700 features a powerful metal gear driven motor that has 1000 watts of power and three speeds. Metal gears last longer than plastic promising years of reliable service.

Mixer Bowl Size: 7 quarts

Accessories: comes with 7 quart stainless steel bowl, paddle, whisk and dough hooks. Additional attachments available include a blender, food processor/slicer, pasta maker, and sausage maker. The splash guard is also an optional attachment available for additional cost.

Features: Viking has a little feature that most stand mixers do not. Easy glide wheels on the base of the mixer allow for easy movement on your counter top. This is a nice feature considering that a good industrial size stand mixer like the VSM700 weighs approximately 27 pounds.

Tilt back construction allows the mixer attachments to be raised and lowered into the bowl easily. The attachments stay above the bowl so that drips don't get on the counter. You can lock it in the up or down position.

Viking stand mixers come in four basic colors; black, white, stainless gray and bright red

Warranty: Viking warranties the motor and parts for 12 full months from the date of purchase under normal household use. The paint or finish, and decorative items are only covered for the first 90 days from the date of purchase.

Cost: Viking VMS700 Stand Mixers purchased directly from Viking are listed at 4.95. They can be found at other websites at around 0.

Product Reviews: 3 stars out of 5 on e-pinions.com total of 5 reviews. 4 stars out of 5 on amazon.com total of 3 reviews. 5 stars out of 5 on cooking.com with a total of 34 ratings.

Overall the Viking stand mixers compare favorably to household favorites such as KitchenAid, Bosch and Cuisinart. All four brands have intensely loyal users and compare favorably for versatility, durability and price. If price is an issue for you and you really want a Viking stand mixer then consider the VSM500. It has a 5 quart bowl and an 800 watt motor. And it sells for about 0 less than the Viking VSM700. It can do everything the 700 series can do but just a little bit smaller batches. If you don't need the huge capacity of the larger mixer then you probably won't miss the 1000 watt motor and the 7 quart mixer bowl.

Stand Mixer Reviews of Kitchenaid, Cuisinart and Viking - Which Brand Is the Best?

!±8± Stand Mixer Reviews of Kitchenaid, Cuisinart and Viking - Which Brand Is the Best?

If you are looking to purchase a stand mixer to complement your kitchen arsenal you need to consider durability, warranty and features in order to get the best value for your money.

A durable mixer is one with mostly metal parts and just very few plastic parts. Most of the recipes where you will need a mixer will require the mixer to operate for an extended period of time. Plastic parts may deform and even breakdown when the mixer is accumulates heat--and it will accumulate heat when you use it for a quite a while. Metal parts and housing on the other hand, is very resilient to heat, it will not deform nor breakdown.

A flexible kind is one which you can use for a wide range of blending and mixing chores, not just kneading dough. This is where speed settings and adjustable whisks come to consideration. Some mixers may even offer attachments which allows you to use your mixer as a blender, meat processor and pasta maker just to name a few.

In this review, we will take a look at 3 industry heavyweights on stand mixer. Kitchenaid, Cuisinart and the Viking brand have been around for a quite a while and are quite dominant in the market.

Kitchenaid

Kitchenaid has the widest following among the stand mixers, and for good reason. This stand mixer is found in a lot of kitchens, your grandmother probably had Kitchenaid--it was probably passed on to your mother, which will be passed on to you. This brand of mixer is very durable and has lasted the test of time. Kitchenaid is one of the best, but its claim to the top spot is somewhat contested.

Cuisinart

Not to be outclassed by Kitchenaid, Cuisinart is also one of the heavyweights in the stand mixer arena. It has plenty of models to choose from. If you need serious power, it has a model which packs a powerful 800 watts. Cuisinart's strength is its use of technology. It has a plenty of convenience features which makes your kitchen duties a lot easier and more efficient. For example, it has a countdown timer which auto shuts off when the timer has finished.

Viking

The Viking brand lives up to its name. It's tough, rugged and very durable. Viking did not hide the toughness of their stand mixers inside, they flaunted it. Just looking at the exterior of the Viking stand mixer, you can already appreciate that it is built rock solid. It has a 1000 watt motor that beat any tough dough to submission.

Which stand mixer is the best

This is a tough question without an easy answer. If money is not a concern, get a Viking. The Viking is the most powerful of the all three, it is also probably the most durable--not the most flexible though. The Viking brand is for professional chef and the really serious home chef who do not need their mixer to double as a blender or pasta maker. If you need to feed a small nation everyday by kneading 6 loaves of bread, the Viking is for you, it is built to withstand restaurant grade punishment.

If you don't want to spend a fortune on the Viking but still want a sturdy stand mixer, then Kitchen is clearly the winner, it is middle of the road between Cuisinart and the Viking.
